How the treatment of care is experienced by patients with mental illness (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim: To describe adult patients' experience of treatment from healthcare professionals in the psychiatric care industry.

Method: The design is a general literature review. Data collection has taken place in the CINAHL database, which resulted in nine qualitative scientific articles.

Result: The analysis showed three themes: Care relationship with respect for man, not being seen and communication. The results showed that the relationship between healthcare professionals and patients is of great importance. Through interaction with healthcare staff, a common trust is created. Confidence in the relationship gives the feeling of being understood and this resulted in a feeling of security. The studies describe that confirmation in a care relationship creates a good relationship. The result also showed that not being seen by the health care professionals was perceived by the patients as inconvenience and lack of commitment.

Conclusion: The authors conclude that the care relationship between healthcare professionals and patients is important for maximum recovery, and that a negative experience of treatment may affect the outcome of continued care. The authors see a strong link, to the importance of a good care relationship with the patient, connected to the aim of the study.

Proposal for continued research: Research focusing on healthcare professionals' conditions, political reasons and economic reasons. Perhaps research on how the view of mental health is perceived from a general perspective. Further research from a patient perspective is considered to be the single most important area for further research, when the patient is always at the center of care.
