Presence and challenges : A literature review of nurses´ care relationship to patientswith anorexia nervosa (English)
Abstract [sv]

Background: Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder and the psychiatric diagnosis with the highest morality. The disease often develops in connection with dieting and is considered a complex disease state. It is common for the person suffering from anorexia nervosa to have a poor self-image with a lack of self-confidence. Nurses have a central role in the care of these patients, where the care relationship is an important part. Aim: To describe nurses´ care relationship to patients with anorexia nervosa. Method: A general literature review with a qualitative approach. The study includes ten articles and qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the articles. Result: Two categories were identified: a challenging relationship and a close relationship. For each category two subcategories were identified. The result showed that the care relationship was multifaceted, with both positive and negative aspects. It was described as a challenging relationship, characterized by resistance, lack of understanding and an internal role conflict within the nurse. It was also described as a close relationship, where careful interaction and constant presence in the care environment were prominent aspects. Conclusion: Nurses have an important caring role, where the care relationship between nurse and patient is central. A person-centered approach was crucial for maintaining a good care relationship and affecting patients' safety and well-being.
