Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Miljön på en intensivvårdsavdelning är ofta stressig där snabba beslut om patientens liv fattas. Detta görs parallellt med att intensivvårdssjuksköterskan övervakar patienten och tar hand om närstående i kris. Syfte: Att belysa nyutexaminerade intensivvårdssjuksköterskors upplevelser av intensivvården under de första sex månaderna. Metod: En deskriptiv kvalitativ ansats användes. Sex deltagare intervjuades med semistrukturerade frågor. Materialet analyserades med innehållsanalys. Resultat: Kategorierna som bildades var: otillräcklighet, oro över att inte passa in i gruppen, att möta döden och trygghet. De nyutexaminerade intensivvårdssjuksköterskorna upplevde osäkerhet, stress och oro över att inte räcka till. Det var viktigt att bli accepterad av gruppen. Stödet från kollegor var betydelsefull och med tiden kunde de få en känsla av trygghet. Slutsats: De nyutexaminerade intensivvårdssjuksköterskorna upplever många krav. Oftast är det de själva som formar prestationskraven. Första tiden i den nya yrkesrollen innebär ett stort behov av stöd från kollegor för att uppnå trygghet. Upplevelsen av trygghet påverkas mycket av hur de socialiserar sig i den nya arbetsgruppen. 

Abstract [en]

Background: The environment in critical care is often stressful, where swift decisions regarding the patient's life are taken. This is done simultaneously when the critical care nurse monitors the patient´s vital signs and takes care of relatives in crisis. Aim: To highlight newly qualified critical care nurses' experiences of critical care during the first six months. Method: A descriptive qualitative approach was used. Six participants were interviewed with semi-structured questions. The material was analysed by content analysis. Results: The categories established were: insufficiency, anxiety of not being able to socialise in the group, to face death and achieve comfort. The newly qualified critical care nurses experienced uncertainty, stress and anxiety of not being good enough. It was important to be accepted by the group. Support from colleagues was important and over time they could get a sense of security. Conclusion: The newly qualified critical care nurse experience many demands. Usually it is themselves who shape the performance criteria. During the early period in their new professional role, the need for support from colleagues is great, to achieve the sense of security. The socialization of the new working group, have a major impact on the feeling of security.
