Abstract [sv]

Den kritiskt sjuke patienten kan komma att utsättas för stora psykiska påfrestningar under tiden på intensivvårdsavdelningen. Patienter hamnar ofta i stressituationer som kan utlösas av såväl yttre som inre påfrestningar, vilket kan leda till upplevelse av hot mot den fysiska existensen. Vad minns patienterna från sin vårdtid? Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva patienters minnesupplevelser tre månader efter utskrivning. Detta med hjälp av den validerade enkäten ICU Memory Tool, där man skiljer mellan faktiska och verkliga minnen samt emotionella och overkliga minnen. Enkäten består av en kvantitativ samt en kvalitativ del. Kvantitativ data sammanställdes och räknades. Den kvalitativa delen analyserades med inspiration av Graneheim och Lundmans analysmetod. Resultatet av studien visar att minnen av närstående var vanligt förkommande. Även minnen av obehagliga upplevelser förekom, där miljön och personalen var påverkande faktorer. Detaljrika hallucinationer och mardrömmar beskrevs, berättelser som för patienten upplevdes som verkliga. Slutsats, patienternas minnesupplevelser påverkas av dels miljön på intensivvårdsavdelningen. Men även de omvårdnadsåtgärder samt undersökningar som patienten utsätts för påverkar dessa minnen. Närstående var enligt patienterna i denna studie det vanligaste förekommande minnet från intensivvårdstiden.

Abstract [en]

The critical ill patient may be subjected to great psychological pressure during the stay in the intensive care unit. Patients often find themselves in stressful situations that can be triggered by external and internal pressures, which may lead to the perception of threat to physical existence. What do patients’ remember from their time in the intensive care unit? The purpose of this study is to describe patients' memory experiences three months after discharge. This, with help of the validated questionnaire ICU Memory Tool, distinguishing between actual and real memories and emotional and unreal memories. The questionnaire consists of a quantitative and a qualitative part. Quantitative data were compiled and counted. The qualitative part analyzed with the inspiration of Graneheim and Lundmans method. The results of this study shows that memories of close relatives were commonly occurring. Although memories of unpleasant experiences were described where the environment and the staff were influencing factors. Several patients' described vividly hallucinations and nigthmares, which narrative of the patients’ was perceived as real. Conclusion, patients' memory experiences were affected by the environment in the intensive care unit. The nursing interventions and examinations that the patients' are exposed to, also affect those memories. Close relatives were in this study the most commonly described memory from ICU stay.
