Skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by anaesthesiology staff in comparsion with the swedish resuscitation council´s rekommendations 2006 (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Patients who suffer from a cardiac arrest are in need of prompt and competent care by well-trained health professionals. A prospective descriptive study with quantitative method was conducted to map cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. Qualified anesthesia personnel performed four series of CPR with a manikin and bag-valve mask. Ventilation was performed by the majority with inadequate tidal volumes, minute volumes and by some with too rapid ventilations. Chest compressions were mostly carried out with sufficient frequency rate. An average depth of >38-51 mm in chest compressions was achieved by two-fifths of the participants. A large part took a wrong hand position and they carried out an incorrect compression- and ventilation ratio. A small part did not allow full chest recoil. Almost no one performed CPR as recommended of the Swedish CPR Council's Quality Policy 2006th. There are gaps in CPR skills of the surveyed staff that require repetitive training and measures to improve training.
