Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: In an emergency care unit the patient‟s vital functions must be given a priority which could lead to dissatisfaction, uncertainty and insecurity as a consequence from lack of information or communication.

Aim: Describe patients‟ experience of the care in emergency care setting.

Method: A systematic review of the literature with a qualitative content analysis was conducted on ten scientific articles.

Result: Three categories with sub-categories were identified; communication, the personal encounter and organized method of working. Communication was perceived to have the greatest potential to influence the outcome of the patient experience of the nursing care. Other factors of great importance were that the staff had a patient centered view with a clear life-world perspective.

Conclusions: If the patients‟ psychosocial needs are attended, the opportunity of a positive experience of the nursing care is increased. The result implies that standardized care plans could be developed in order to attend the psychosocial needs of the patient in acute care setting.
