Inom den psykiatriska tvångsvården ingår komplexa och etiskt utmanande arbetsuppgifter för sjuksköterskan. Att vårda på ofrivillig basis kan även upplevas strida mot ICN:s etiska kod för sjuksköterskor där det bland annat framgår att patientens autonomi ska främjas, samt Röda Korsets grundprinciper och uppförandekod för sjuksköterskor. Syftet med denna studie var att belysa sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att tvångsvårda patienter inom psykiatrisk vård. Föreliggande studie har utformats som en allmän litteraturstudie bestående av tio kvalitativa studier som analyserades med hjälp av en tematisk analys. I resultatet identifierades två huvudteman: Lidande och Utvecklingsbehov. Temana beskrev att sjuksköterskorna upplevde en psykisk och emotionell stress, samt en känsla av etisk konflikt. De framhävde även en negativ påverkan på relationen med patienter samt att vårdmiljön var ogynnsam. Sjuksköterskorna beskrev även ett behov av mer stöd från arbetsplatsen samt att patientdelaktighet upplevdes förbättra förutsättningarna för att vårda under tvång. Studien visade på behov av en förbättrad arbetsmiljö, bredare stöd och utbildning samt att det kan bidra till en bättre psykiatrisk vård under tvång med minskat lidande för samtliga parter. 

In psychiatric involuntary care, nurses could face complex and ethically difficult tasks. Involuntary care could also be perceived as being in conflict with the ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses. The aim of this study was to highlight nurses´ perceptions regarding involuntary care in the psychiatric field. The study design was a general literature study, consisting of ten qualitative studies which were analyzed thematically. The results identified two main themes: Suffering and Need for development and improvement. The nurses reported how they experience psychological and emotional stress, along with a sense of ethical conflict. They also highlighted how patient relationships could be affected negatively and described the work environment as inadequate and unfavorable. They also emphasized the need for greater workplace support and how patient participation contributed to a more positive experience. The study showed the need for an improved environment in psychiatric units, broader support, and increased education, which could lead to better involuntary psychiatric care with reduced suffering for all parties involved.
