Nurses´ experiences of pressure ulcer prevention : From Lydia Halls theory about the three aspects of nursing (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Pressure ulcer was a big part of the care related injuries and created great suffering for patients. Research has shown nursing measures that can reduce the risk of pressure ulcers. Nurses were responsible for providing patients with safe care and reducing suffering.

Aim: The aim was to deductively describe, based on Lydia Hall's interaction theory, nurses' experiences of working preventively against pressure ulcers.

Method: General literature review with qualitative design including twelve scientific articles from databases PubMed and CINAHL. Data analysis was based on Elo & Kyngä's method from 2008 for qualitative content analyses.

Results: Pressure ulcer prevention can be applied based on Lyda Hall's theory of the three aspects of nursing. The result is presented in the three categories care, core, cure.

Conclusions: Hall's nursing theory can be applied to nurses' experiences of pressure ulcer prevention. Nurses, like Hall, emphasize importance of interprofessional collaboration, patient participation, and complexity that nurses face regarding prioritization of medical care and nursing.

Further research: Further research about nurses’ competence and interest in pressure ulcer prevention and what affects it is needed. Further research about what enables qualitative pressure ulcer prevention is also necessary.
