Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Sjuksköterskans arbete syftar till att ständigt utveckla och bedriva god omvårdnad. Sjuksköterskan har ett viktigt uppdrag inom pediatrisk onkologi och utgör en central funktion i lindrande av lidande för barn och familjer. Under ett barns sjukhusvistelse har sjuksköterskan ett ansvar att bemöta, inkludera och uppmuntra barn och familj till interaktion och delaktighet i omvårdnaden, enligt familjecentrerad vård.      

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter och upplevelser av att möta och vårda familjer med barn som diagnostiserats med cancer.       

Metod: En litteraturstudie med induktiv ansats, bestående av tio originalartiklar som analyserades genom tematisk analys.    

Resultat: Två teman identifierades: Utmaningar i professionen och Vårdrelationens betydelse. Även fem tillhörande underteman identifierades. 

Slutsats: Erfarenheterna hos sjuksköterskor som arbetar inom pediatrisk onkologi är många. Generellt påverkas sjuksköterskor negativt av sitt yrke med upplevda känslor som ångest, oro och rädsla. Parallellt beskriver sjuksköterskor att de genom personligt engagemang utvecklar meningsfulla, nära relationer med barn och familj. Vilka genomsyras av medkänsla och medlidande, åsyftande att uppnå en god familjecentrerad omvårdnad. Dessa erfarenheter föranleder att ytterligare forskning fordras för att bättre kunna förstå sjuksköterskors behov i professionen. 

Abstract [en]

Background: The nursing profession aims to incessantly develop and conduct good care. The nurse has an important mission within pediatric oncology and composes a central function in the alleviation of suffering for children and their families. During a child’s hospitalization the nurse has a responsibility to face, include and encourage children and families to interaction and participation in the child’s care, according to family-centered care.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses’ experiences and perceptions of encountering and providing care for families with children diagnosed with cancer. 

Method: A literature study with an inductive approach based on 10 qualitative articles that were analyzed through a thematic analysis.      

Results: Two themes emerged: Challenges in the profession and The importance of the caregiving relationship. Additionally, five related subthemes were identified. 

Conclusions: The experiences of nurses within pediatric oncology are many. Generally, nurses are negatively affected by their work with feelings such as anxiety, worry and fear. In parallel, nurses describe how they develop meaningful and close relationships with children and families. Which are permeated by sympathy and compassion, aiming to achieve good family-centered care. These experiences give rise to further research, to better understand the nurses’ needs within their profession.
