Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Violence against children in close relationships is a serious global public health issue with long-term consequences for the child’s physical and mental health. Nurses play an important role in identifying and acting upon suspected child abuse.

Aim: The aim was to synthesize and summarize qualitative studies that explored nurses' experiences of caring for children exposed to domestic violence.

Method: The study was conducted as a general literature review with a qualitative approach. Thirteen scientific articles were selected and analyzed using thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke (2006).

Results: The nurses described a strong emotional impact, uncertainty in decision-making, and fear when interacting with parents. A lack of support from organizations and other professionals reinforced the experience of loneliness and insecurity.

Conclusion: Clear guidelines, education, and psychosocial support are needed to enable nurses to manage these complex situations. Future research should explore which forms of organizational support are most effective in these care encounters.

Keywords: emotional strain, experience, nursing, nurse, domestic violence, violence against children.
