Bakgrund: Abort innebär borttagandet av en graviditet. Avlägsnandet av en graviditet kan ske både medicinskt och kirurgiskt, beroende på den individuella kvinnans tillstånd. Vårdandet av kvinnor som har genomgått en abort kan vara fysiskt och emotionellt krävande för både patienten och sjuksköterskan. Studien relaterar till de bärande begreppen person och vårdrelation.

Syfte: Beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att vårda kvinnor som har genomgått abort.

Metod: En litteraturstudie med kvalitativ ansats som följde Polit och Becks niostegmodell. Nio originalartiklar inkluderades och analyserades med Graneheim och Lundmans innehållsanalys.

Resultat: Tre teman identifierades: Givandet av emotionell vård, Hantering av egna känslor under vårdgivning och Vikten av att ta vara på sjuksköterskors tidigare kunskap och erfarenheter.

Slutsats: Abortvården innefattar en komplex patientgrupp. Sjuksköterskor upplever att abortvården ställer stora krav på personalen både fysiskt och emotionellt då varje patient är unik och är i behov av olika former av stöd. Sjuksköterskor upplever ett behov av att balansera abortvården med annan typ av obstetrisk/gynekologisk vård för att inte känna av en allt för hög belastning, samtidigt som de framställer vikten av att få stöd av varandra för att kunna ge den bästa vården, utan att överbelasta sig själva.

Background: Abortion, the termination of pregnancy, can be performed through medical or surgical methods depending on the woman's circumstances. Providing care for women who have undergone an abortion can be physically and emotionally challenging for both patients and nurses. This study explores the fundamental concepts of the terms person and the healthcare relationship.

Aim: To describe the nurses experiences when caring for women who have undergone an abortion.

Method: A literature study with a qualitative approach that followed the Nine-Step model by Polit & Beck. Nine original articles were included and analyzed using Graneheim and Lundmans content analysis.

Results: Three themes were identified: Providing emotional care, managing ones’ own emotions during caregiving, and the importance of using nurses’ previous knowledge and experiences.

Conclusions: Caring for patients seeking abortion is a complex task. Nurses feel that abortion care places significant physical and emotional demands on them, given the unique needs of each patient. Nurses recognize the importance of striking a balance between abortion care and other gynecological/obstetric services to prevent overwhelming themselves. Additionally, they highlight the significance of mutual support among colleagues to deliver optimal care while avoiding burnout.
