Background: Adolescent mental health issues are increasing globally. Inpatient care has become increasingly strained, with reports indicating that teenagers may suffer in these settings. A litterature review about their experiences of psychiatric care is needed, as few studies have been conducted on this topic.

Aim: To describe adolescents' experiences of psychiatric care in inpatient settings.

Method: A literature review according to Polit and Beck's nine-step model and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis.

Results: Two themes: "The power of the relationship - both as connection and barrier" and "Balance between care and integrity." Under the first theme, two sub-themes were identified: "The nurse is like a friend" and "The nurse is inconsistent." Under the second theme two sub-themes were identified: "Structures and routines facilitate healing" and "Safety is prioritized".

Conclusion: Adolescents' experiences of psychiatric inpatient care are characterized by values that are weighed against each other – nursing care as both supportive and restrictive. Four sub-themes emerge as central to developing care practices. Further research should include qualitative studies from diverse cultural contexts to better understand and tailor nursing care.

Bakgrund: Tonåringars psykiska ohälsa ökar globalt. Heldygnsvården har blivit alltmer ansträngd och rapporter har publicerats att tonåringar kan fara illa där. En litteraturstudie om deras erfarenheter av psykiatrisk omvårdnad är högst relevant då studier om ämnet knappt finns.

Syfte: Beskriva tonåringars erfarenheter av psykiatrisk omvårdnad i heldygnsvården.

Metod: Litteraturstudie genomförd enligt Polit och Becks niostegsmodell samt analyserad enligt Braun och Clarkes tematiska analys.

Resultat: Två teman identifierades: “Relationens kraft - både som förbindelse och hinder” och “Balans mellan stöd och integritet”. Till första temat identifierades två underteman: “Sjuksköterskan är som en vän” och “Sjuksköterskan är inkonsekvent”. Till andra temat identifierades två underteman: “Strukturer och rutiner möjliggör läkning” och “Säkerhet prioriteras”.

Slutsats: Tonåringars erfarenheter av psykiatrisk omvårdnad i heldygnsvård präglas av värden som vägs mot varandra - omvårdnaden både stödjande och begränsande. Fyra underteman framträder som centrala för att utveckla omvårdnaden. Vidare forskning bör inkludera kvalitativa studier från andra kulturella kontexter för att bättre förstå och anpassa vården.
